Use the Form Mode option to select an individual user's default mode, either read-optimized or editable, for viewing records in forms. Read-optimized record forms open quickly and prevent accidental edits, but they don't display content from custom scripts or from web resources. Editable forms display rich contextual editing and other commands on the ribbon, and are ideal for users who typically create or update records.
If you've set edit as your system default for viewing records, but you have some users—such as mobile salespeople—who need to quickly view records but don't create or update records, you can select those users to automatically view record forms in read-optimized mode. In this scenario, with your system default set for editable records, all other users in your organization will continue to use editable record forms.
Likewise, if your system default is read-optimized forms, you can enable just the users who need to create or update records to have editable records.
Notes
A record form that contains content generated by a custom script will always open in editable format, regardless of the system default or personal options.
Security settings (form level and field level) for editable and read-optimized forms are identical.
Note
Any Microsoft Dynamics CRM user can open read-optimized records in editable mode by selecting the records in the list and then clicking the Edit icon, regardless of the system default setting for viewing record forms or the Form Mode setting described above.
